Mission Beach is located on the Great Green Way, Tropical North Queensland coast in Australia between the northern cities of Cairns and Townsville. The drive to Mission Beach from either Cairns or Townsville takes you through the heart of the region and can be an adventure in itself. From the main highway and into Mission Beach proper you directly travel through World Heritage listed rainforest.
To Mission Beach by Road
If you are heading to Mission Beach from the south, turn off at the Bruce Highway north of Tully and it is approx 26 km to Mission Beach. If you are wishing to hire a car in Townsville Avis, Budget or Hertz are the only companies that you will be able to use.
From the north turn off at the Bruce Highway at El Arish (opposite El Arish Golf Course) and follow Cassowary Drive into Mission Beach approx. 16kms.
Sugarland Car Rentals has an office in Cairns and Mission Beach. They are happy to hire vehicles on a one way basis, i.e. from Cairns to Mission Beach.
By Train
Qld Rail Passenger Train services stops at the Tully Railway Station. Please contact Mission Beach Holidays to enquire about transfers from Tully.
You can also travel in style on the new Queensland Tilt train directly to Cairns and then take Mission Beach Dunk Island Connections Coach to Mission Beach.
By Coach
McCafferty - Greyhound Coach Service (phone 13 14 99) make regular stops in Mission Beach. These services pick up/drop off at the coach terminal in Wongaling Beach. Please contact Mission Beach Holidays for advice on transferring to your accommodation.
By Plane
Fly either to Cairns or Townsville with Qantas, JetStar or Virgin Blue and then Mission Beach Dunk Island Connections Coach to Mission Beach.
There are no connecting coach services to Mission Beach from Townsville as yet.
Mission Beach Dunk Island Connections (phone +61 7 4059 2709) has an air conditioned coach service to and from Cairns Airport 3 times a day to Mission Beach leaving at 7:00am; 11:30am and 2:00pm.
They will deliver you to any accommodation venue in Mission Beach from Cairns airport and visa versa.
