QuickCoast will be operating a Mission Beach & Dunk Island ferry service from four to five times per week. We offer a Dunk Island day trip that is not to be missed. It wouldn’t be a trip to Mission Beach... if you didn’t spend a day at ‘Dunk‘. From the jetty, make a left and follow the beach until you reach the track signs leading to Muggy Muggy Beach and Mount Kootaloo.If you’re up for a hike and fit for the challenge , set your sights on Mount Kootaloo first. The steep 7km-return track takes you through ancient fern forests and ironbark groves, past the rusty remains of a World War II radar station, to the island’s highest point with pinch-yourself panoramic views of the Family Group of Islands. On the way back down, landlubbers can continue to explore the island’s core along the circuit track (a round trip takes about 3-4 hours), passing through the Palm Valley before coming out at Coconut Beach. For visitors requiring a more easy hike then an excellent walk along Pallon Beach, via the a lookout to the old farm to Coconut Beach is highly recommended If the salty seas are calling your name, follow the track back down to the Muggy Muggy Beach turn-off for a dip and a snorkel. Mission Jets' skis are the latest Yamaha FXHO design. They feature cruise control, reverse and neutral gear option and a tilt trim to help you ride through the waves with ease. Our skis are very powerful... but also very stable and most importantly, they are extremely comfortable and easy to ride. Before departure a full training and safety brief will be given and then a short rider assessment will be conducted during the start of your hire. AGE LIMIT To operate a jet ski on your own you need to be 16 years of age and over. Riders 12 to 15 years of age can operate a jet ski provided an adult accompanies them. There is plenty of room on board, we are licensed to carry a maximum of 12 passengers around our islands, and up to 9 to the Outer Great Barrier Reef, making her great for larger groups, fantastic for private charters. She is fast and comfortable with a 2016 model 225 Yamaha pushing her at up to 25 knots cruise (dependant on sea and wind conditions). Be it popper, jigging, trolling or bottom fishing, her open centre console design and great stability makes her the logical choice for your offshore trip. Skippers Alister (senior skipper) and Gererd cut their teeth fishing around Dunk Island, the Family and Barnard Island groups, having been contracted to the Dunk and Bedarra Resorts for some 30 years, prior to Dunks closing. These are the most beautiful island groups on the Eastern Australian Coast, covered in lush rainforest, fringed by reefs. Even if you don’t wet a line, you will enjoy being part of this scenery for a morning. If you only have a half day spare, this is your trip to do. Target species vary from the Outer Reef. Grunter, fingermark and gold spot cod are our main bottom table fish targets, queenfish, spotted and school mackerel on the surface. If available on the day, live sardines are the bait of choice, however cut and whole baits (pilchard and squid) will work perfectly well.
